Pannell Talks Michigan Visit

Birmingham Groves OT Deon'tae Pannell was in Ann Arbor dropping in on the Wolverines on Wednesday. With the Maize & Blue coming into the day trailing a couple other Big Ten schools for his services, did this visit turn the tide?

It is getting down to crunch time for Deon'tae Pannell. The 6'5, 285-lb offensive lineman from Birmingham Groves is thinking he will commit within the next month and as a result, is doing all the last minute legwork to reach a decision. One piece of that came on Wednesday when he made a visit to Ann Arbor and the Michigan Wolverines.

"It went well," Pannell said of the visit. "I met with Coach Lloyd Carr, Coach DeBord, Moeller and Coach Gittleson. I had a tour of the academic center, of campus and I got to meet Jake Long and just hang out up there."

This was not Pannell's first visit to campus, but was the first time he was accompanied to Ann Arbor by his mom, about whom he says, "I think she liked it, but I'm not sure how much."

Already holding offers from several schools, Pannell has at least narrowed down his choices to Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State. The Wolverines went into the visit third on the big man's list.

"They're still third," he explained, "but they made up some ground today."

The Wolverines, Spartans and Nittany Lions will have to hold their breath until early August, as that is still the target date for him to announce his decision. If all goes according to plan, Pannell will give each of his final three a final chance to make an impression on him.

"I'm visiting Penn State at the end of the month and I'll probably end up at Michigan State again sometime before the end of the month," Pannell reported, and as for the maize and blue, he said, "Yeah, I am planning to have another visit with Michigan too."
