Kenny Demens hasn’t had much free time in recent weeks. With his team set to play its first game Friday, the practice field has become his second home. The intense prep schedule has caused him to alter many of his other plans, including a trip he intended to take to Ann Arbor last Saturday to observe a Michigan scrimmage.
“I wasn’t able to make it because I had practice with my team…on SATURDAY,” Demens said laughing. “It’s just been practice, eat, and sleep for the last few weeks. They’ve been killing us, but it’s good because the team is looking real good.”
At this point much of Demens’ focus is on his team, and when school starts (in just a matter of days) he will have to begin dedicating a great of his attention to academics. His prior plan was to put his recruitment on the backburner around this time, opting instead to wait and take a few official visits. That plan is now out the window. The wait will soon be over because he has a pretty good idea of where he wants to spend the next four to five years of his life.
“I’m going to commit the first day of school,” Demens said. “I’m going to have a press conference at my school on the first day. I want to say (the first day) is on the fourth (of September).”
Demens had previously narrowed his list of contenders to two; Michigan and Nebraska. Lately, though, a dark horse reemerged in the race thanks to the efforts of one of its commitments.
“Michigan, Nebraska, and Michigan State are the schools I’m looking at,” said Demens. I’ve got Michigan State back in there because I’ve been chatting with Fred Smith through facebook and he wants me to come there. I’ve been hollering at Mike Martin on facebook too. Mike Martin is dying to get me out (to Michigan)! Everyone from Nebraska has been calling me. The same ones… Blaine Gabbert, Will Compton, Doug Rippy, and Josh Williams…, everybody.”
“Everybody will find out what I’m doing the first day of school.”
