Icers Selected Fourth at CCHA Media Day

Red Berenson and his Michigan Wolverines ice hockey team was picked to finish fourth in both the coaches and media poll yesterday at CCHA Media in downtown Detroit at Joe Louis Arena. Michigan State and Miami of Ohio split the decision for first place. Notre Dame was selected No. 3 by both the coaches and the media after their record setting year one season ago.

DETROIT -- The 2007-08 edition of the Michigan Wolverines ice hockey team was picked to finish fourth in both the coaches and media preseason CCHA polls at the leagues media day on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Michigan received 596 points in the media poll, including four first-place votes. Michigan State, the defending NCAA Champion, was selected as tops in the media poll with 701 points. Miami of Ohio, the CCHA's third place finisher last season, narrowly edged out Notre Dame, the conference champion from last season, with 667 and 656 votes respectively.

Ohio State and Nebraska-Omaha rounded out the top half of the preseason conference standings.

In the coaches poll, Miami of Ohio edged out the Michigan State Spartans by one point. Miami received 5 of the 12 votes and finished with 114 total points. Michigan State finished with 113 points and six first-place votes.

Notre Dame received one first-place vote in the coaches poll and finished 13 points ahead of the Wolverines to earn third place honors.

As was the case in the media poll, Ohio State and Nebraska-Omaha finished fifth and sixth in the preseason coaches poll.

Michigan opens the 2007-08 season with the annual Blue/White intrasquad scrimmage at Yost Ice Arena scheduled for Sat., October 6 at 7:30 p.m.
