Before the season started, Long Beach (CA) Poly safety Vaughn Telemaque told everyone that would listen that he was going to blow up. In a game against Carson High a few weeks back, the big athletic youngster did just that, picking off three passes in the first half. Just as he forecasted, his stock exploded like a crate of TNT. The USC Trojans stepped forward with an offer, thereby verifying what the confident prospect had been saying all along.
“It was kind of like letting me know I’m playing well,” Telemaque said. “Just a congratulations. Another school offered. (USC) let me know in the beginning that if I played up to par that they would (offer). They just wanted to go through the recruiting process and see me play. I had three picks in the first half of that game. I’ve got about 25 tackles, four picks, and six pass breakups and we’re 4-1. I’m definitely trying to do it real big.”
Telemaque also has offers from Michigan, Oregon, Rutgers, North Carolina, Boise State and Ole Miss. He will begin taking his official visits this weekend when he makes his way to Chapel Hill to see what the Tar Heels have to offer. The following week, he will make his long anticipated visit to Michigan.
“I’m coming (to Ann Arbor) for the Purdue game and it is going to be a good one,” said Telemaque. “Especially if (the Boilermakers) come out and beat Ohio State. I think the Big House is going to be popping.”
“I recently talked to Coach English and he was letting me know that they were hearing big things about me but that they were definitely working on their team,” Telemaque continued. “There were team things they had to get to so they could get everybody running right. They’ve been real busy with stuff, but they’re really looking forward to having me come out there.”
The Wolverines previously enjoyed exclusive status atop Telemaque’s list, but with the Trojans’ recent decision to offer, some believed that lead would quickly erode. Thus far it hasn’t happened.
“It does change things,” Telemaque said regarding his USC offer, “but Michigan is still #1. That wasn’t going to change up anytime soon. Michigan is still #1. SC jumped up into the top three automatically because they’re in California, but right now I feel like Michigan is #1.”
Telemaque has made it clear that he is in no hurry to end the recruiting process and that he is planning to take all of his official visits. However, he did not rule out the possibility of his recruitment reaching its conclusion while he is in Ann Arbor.
“Possibly,” replied Telemaque when asked if he might commit on his Michigan visit. “If it’s a good experience, it could be an obvious fit. I could know that on the trip. A decision could come possibly on the trip. After the trip I could feel really good and do it then. Or it could be the opposite. It could be a bummer of a trip for some reason. I don’t know what that reason would be because I have every intention of having a good time and seeing a place where I could spend the next four years of my life.”
GoBlueWolverine will have more on Telemaque in the coming months.
