Gray Back on the Market

Detroit Country Day RB Jonas Gray settled in on a commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers a few months back, but as their season unraveled, so too did that commit. GoBlueWolverine recently caught up with the talented youngster and he revealed three new schools that are currently under consideration.

The disappointing fashion in which the season has unfolded for the Nebraska Cornhuskers has started to have ramifications off the field. Many of the Big Red’s commitments are now looking around. One of the most recent to recruits to reconsider his pledge was Detroit Country Day tailback Jonas Gray. As a matter of fact, Gray’s stance is much more definitive than many of his other former classmates.

“Yeah, I’m back on the market,” said Gray. “I just decommitted today (i.e. Monday). (The coaches) are saying that they hope Nebraska honors their contracts and give them two more years. I don’t know. I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Gray’s has focused in on a select group of schools and hopes to settle in on a second choice in the not too distant future.

“Pretty much it’s just Notre Dame, Michigan, and probably LSU. LSU contacted my coach. I don’t have a visit set up with them. I told my coach to tell them that right now is not really a good time. Michigan is in contact. I talked to Coach Jackson (Sunday) I think. He wants me to come down for a visit. He wants to talk to my mom. Kenny (Demens) is on me too. He just said coming to Michigan (laughing). Kenny is just telling me what I want to hear.“

“I know everything about all of the schools,” he continued. “Really it’s about comfort. If I’m comfortable and my family is comfortable, then I’m going to get it done. It could happen whenever.”

With a timetable that calls for such a fast turnaround, Gray isn’t leaving much time to take more visits. He is coming off an impressive trip to South Bend last weekend, and that may give the Irish the edge at this point.

“I’m going to try to visit Michigan, but I don’t know when I’m going to be able to do that because we play Saturday (Country Day hosts Detroit Douglass in the first round of the playoffs). I’m going to probably have (the decision) over with by the Ohio State game, so I probably won’t be able to visit. I’m looking at it the schedule now. I like Michigan a lot… don’t give me wrong. The fact that Hart is leaving means I would get a chance to start right away, but I feel comfortable with Notre Dame too.”

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Jonas Gray in the coming days.
