GoBlueWolverine had the opportunity to see Lee’s Summit (Mo.) PG Michael Dixon down in Cincinnati this summer at the Adidas “It Takes Five” tournament, and it was apparent at that time that he would be a highly sought after recruit. Dixon is a very solid point guard that can get his teammates involved, but also can put up the points when necessary. Beilein apparently noticed those talents as well because he made his way down to Missouri a few weeks ago to catch the youngster in a little open gym action. The trip didn’t go quite according to plan because the rainy weather on that particular day forced the football team to conduct practice inside on the gym floor. Still, Dixon knows that Michigan’s is interested.
“Coach Beilein told me that he likes my leadership skills,” Dixon said. “He also told me that he likes my teammate’s attitude towards me. (Michigan assistant) Coach Mahoney told me how much they need a point guard and that they would like to get me up to see them”
Dixon’s father indicated that the interest is mutual, but he’s not quite ready to call the Maize & Blue one of the favorites.
“(Coach Beilein) is one of the best coaches out there right now,” Michael Sr. said. “I am very familiar with how he runs his program. Mike just wants to see how they play this year and what type of situation they will be in, right now we are just evaluating colleges at this time.”
As is the case with most parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dixon are stressing to their son that his decision should be based on more than just basketball. They want him to focus on getting a great education as well.
“We want Mike to understand that this is a blessing and that he should be grateful,” Mr. Dixon explained. “It is very important that we give him the right guidance so that he can make the right college choice.”
GoBlueWolverine will have more on Dixon in the coming weeks.
