U-M Continues MSU Dominance (Drives, Stats)

Playing with a more badly-wounded offense than even U-M fans will ever know ... the Wolverines gut-checked a great come-back MEEEECHIGAN win over the still-hapless Sparties. Here are the drive, and the stats.

MSU took the opening kickoff to the MSU 26. MSU got 3 first downs, including an 18 yard completion to the 50 and another 18 yard completion to the U-M 21. But the drive stalled at the U-M 18 and MSU kicked a 36 yard field goal at the 11:28 mark.

MSU 3, Michigan 0

U-M took the ensuing kickoff to their 29.U-M got 2 first downs to the MSU 41 then had to punt.

MSU took the punt at their 18 at the 8:19 mark, and went 3 and out.

U-M took the punt at their own 37 yard line. U-M got 3 first downs -- on an 11 yard completion to Carson Butler, on a 38 yard run by Mike Hart to the MSU 11 ... and 2 plays later on a 11 yard TD pass by Chad Henne to to Mario Manningham at the 3:54 mark.

Michigan 7, MSU 3

MSU took the ensuing kickoff at their 20, and went 3 and out.

U-M took the punt at their 46 at the 1:44 mark, and went 3 and out as well.

After a short punt, MSU took the punt at their 41.

SECOND QUARTER

On the 3rd play, Heuer threw an interception to Jamar Adams at the U-M 40, which Adams returned to the MSU 42.

On the first play, U-M got a 1st down on a 32 yard run by Hart to the MSU 10. On 3rd down Henne threw a 5 yard TD pass to Carson Butler at the 12:46 mark.

Michigan 14, MSU 3

MSU returned the kickoff to their 37 yard line. They went 3 and out led by a sack by Terrance Taylor back to the MSU 27.

MSU launched a 67 yard punt which U-M took all the way back at their 6 yard line... and went 3 and out.

MSU took the punt at the U-M 44 at the 9:10 mark, but the U-M defense held MSU to a 3 and out.

U-M took the punt at their own 7 yard line and went 3 and out (and Hart limped off the field).

MSU took the punt at the U-M 49 at the 5:28 mark and went 3 and out once again.

U-M took the punt at their 20 and went 3 and out once again at the 3:26 mark.

Zoltan Mesko launched a 52 yard punt into the wind to the MSU 28 ... and went 3 and out yet again.

Greg Mathews took the punt 29 yards from the U-M 30 to the MSU 41 at the 2:03 mark mark.

On 4th and 3 from the MSU 34 at the 0:59 mark, first U-M called time out, then MSU called one as well ... then Chad Henne threw an interception at the MSU 29 with 0:54 left.

MSU got a 23 yard completion to the U-M 48, then punted, and U-M ran out the half.

HALFTIME STATS

U-M has 128 yards total (35 passing, 93 rushing), MSU 88 (70 passing, 15 rushing) ...neither got 25 in the second quarter).

Mike Hart had 97 yards on 14 carries ... including a 38 yard run to set up the 1st U-M TD and a 32 yard run to se up the 2nd U-M TD.

Javon Ringer was 6-21.

Chad Henne was 7-14-35 and 2 TD's.

Brian Hoyer was 8-21-70.

MSU was 1-10 on 3rd downs, U-M 1-7.

MSU took the punt to the MSU 25. The Spartans went on a grinding 14-play drive, mostly on the ground, getting 5 first downs and scoring at the 6:32 mark.

Michigan 14, MSU 10

U-M took the kickoff to the U-M 35 yard line, but went 3 and out on a 3rd down sack at the U-M 33.

MSU took the punt at their own 28 yard line. MSU got a first down, then punted it from their own 40.

U-M took the punt at their own 1 at the 3:07 mark. U-M got a first down on a 27 yard completion to Manningham at the 50, then had to punt.

MSU took the punt at their 17 at the 0:49 mark.

FOURTH QUARTER

MSU got a first down on a 72 yard run by Jovan Ringer to the U-M 5. and on the next play MSU scored at the 14:55 mark.

MSU 17, Michigan 14

U-M took the ensuing kickoff to the U-M 27, and goes 3 and out back to the 19.

MSU took the punt at their 48. MSU got 3 first downs to the U-M 6, then scored on 3rd down form the 1 at the 7:40 mark.

MSU 24, Michigan 14

U-M took the kickoff to the U-M 21. U-M went to the air and got 5 first downs to the MSU 14: one on a 12 yard completion to Adrian Arrington to the U-M 33 (and Henne limped off), another when Hart picked up a Ryan Mallett fumble and took it to the U-M 44, another on a 12 yard completion to the MSU 44, another on a 4 yard completion to Mathews at the U-M 40 with a personal foul to the MSU 25, and another on a 11 yard completion to Arrington at the MSU 14. And Henne hit Mathews for a 14 yard TD at the 6:47 mark.

MSU 24, Michigan 21

MSU took the kickoff to their 26 yard line, and the U-M defense held -- 3 and out at the 5:00 mark.

U-M took the punt at the U-M 34. U-M got 2 first downs, with a 9 yard completion to Arrington, an 11 yard completion to Arrington, 15 yard completion to Manningham to the MSU 30 ... and a 30 yard TD pass to Manningham at the 2:28 mark.

Michigan 28, MSU 24

MSU took the ensuing kickoff to the MSU 31. MSU 2 first downs to the U-M ... but turned it over on downs, thanks to a sack by Shawn Crable and Obi Ezeh back to the U-M 43.

Michigan ran out the clock!

FINAL STATS

U-M got 311 yards total (211 passing, just 10 rushing), MSU 52 (161 passing, 191 rushing).

Mike Hart had 118 yards on 15 carries.

Javon Ringer had 15 carries for 128 yards; Jehuu Caulcrick had 22 carries for 84 yards and 2 TD's.

Chad Henne was 18-33 for 211 yards and 4 TD's.

Brian Hoyer was 19-35-1.
