Smith to Serve One Game Suspension

Michigan basketball Coach John Beilein announced Thursday afternoon that junior PG Jerret Smith would serve a one game suspension for a violation of team rules.

"Jerret violated an important team rule and I felt it was necessary to warrant this course of action," said Beilein. "There is a high priority of academic responsibility at this university and on this team. Jerret did not meet his obligation to that. Hopefully he will learn a valuable lesson from this and we will all move forward after tomorrow's game."

Smith was initially slated to serve the suspension for Friday night’s contest against Radford, but an ankle injury during Thursday’s practice caused Beilein to adjust things a bit.

“As soon as he is able to play again, then his one game suspension will begin,” said Beilien. “It’s for a class attendance policy that we’re not going to have any slippage in.”
