Sims Selected Big 10 Player of the Week

Michigan opened the basketball season with a pair of wins last week. Sophomore forward DeShawn Sims helped lead the Wolverines offensive attack, and, as a result, hauled in Big 10 Player of the Week honors early on Monday afternoon. It's the first Big 10 Player of the Week award of Sims' career.

No one knew what to expect out of the Michigan basketball team this season. With a new coach, and a roster full of players with limited game experience, no one knew where the Wolverines offense would come from.

It came from DeShawn Sims in week one.

Sims, a 6-foot-8 forward from Detroit, led the Wolverines in scoring through the first two games averaging 20.0 points in wins against Radford and Brown. As a result of his efforts, Sims hauled in his first Big 10 Player of the Week award of his career early Monday afternoon.

Sims also added 5.5 rebounds a game as the Wolverines opened the season with an 82-55 win over Radford and a 72-57 win over Brown.

Michigan returns to the floor for a road tilt with No. 5-ranked Georgetown to be carried by ESPN360. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
