Porter: Sauer CCHA Players of the Week

No. 2 Michigan recorded a sweep of the 2007 College Hockey Showcase with a pair of wins against the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Gophers this past weekend. With strong outings in both games, it was a pair of Wolverines who each earned CCHA honors as the weeks top player.

In the Wolverines two-game sweep of the 2007 College Hockey Showcase, the No. 2-ranked Wolverines sent a statement to people questioning the level of talent faced by the Wolverines in recent weeks. As a result of their dominant weekend, a pair of Wolverines were selected as CCHA Players of the Week earlier this week.

In the first game of the weekend, the Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to 57 scoreless minutes from Sauer before the Badgers would pot a pair of goals in the final three minutes. Against Minnesota the following night, the Gophers were held to just one goal on 27 shots as the Wolverines beat up on the Gophers 5-1.

With the weekend behind him, Sauer's goal against average is down to a career best 2.00 through 14 games. His current save percentage of .918 is also a career best. It's Sauer's third straight CCHA Goalie of the Week award.

On the offensive side of the ice it was Kevin Porter claiming the conferences top honors. With a line of 3-3-6 on the weekend, Porter increased his lead atop the nations leader board in both points and goals. Porter scored once with an assist against the Badgers on Friday night before a two goal, two assist night against the Gophers. Porter is the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week.

Porter has recorded 16 goals and 8 assists through Michigan's first 14 games.
