New Brunswick, NJ safety Brandon Smith has been in relative shutdown mode with the media for the past few months. But for a few sporadic interviews, he has kept his thoughts out of the public eye. That was major switch from early in the process when he was a lot more willing to talk. Much of the change was based all of the pressure he was feeling during the season… both to play well and to settle on a school. Finally that pressure is no more.
This Saturday during the Army All American game, Smith will let the world in on his big secret.
“Brandon has made a decision and will only let it be known during the Army All-American game,” Smith’s mother told GoBlueWolverine. “I will be happy no matter where he attends I am just glad that this is all coming to an end.”
The three schools garnering most of his attention at this point are Michigan, South Carolina and Rutgers. Of the three, Smith’s mother indicated that South Carolina has been showing an awful lot of love. Coach Spurrier has visited the talented youngster and things apparently went very well. In addition, Smith made his way down to the Palmetto State earlier this year, and that too went well.
“He really enjoyed himself down there,” Mrs. Smith said. “Brandon had a really good time.”
As strong as South Carolina appears to be in this race, they still had to duke it out with Rutgers and Michigan. As the hometown school, Rutgers has always had a bit of a built in edge. At the same time, Michigan is Smith’s childhood favorite, so that curried the Maize & Blue a little bit of favor as well.
With the game a mere five days away, all three schools are probably wondering if they could have recruited Smith harder. One of them definitely has.
