Back in the summer yours truly talked to The Insiders' #65 prospect, wide receiver Jayson Swain (Alabama Nike stats: 6-2, 205 lbs., 4.45 in the 40, 34-inch vertical jump, 2.8 GPA/15 ACT) from Huntsville, Alabama, Grissom. At that time we told him we'd follow up with his coach if he decided to make an official visit to Michigan. Well, it is time for the follow-up: we just got off the phone with Head Coach Massey of Grisson High School.
"Jayson is scheduled to go up to Michigan for an official visit the 2nd of November."
"He's interested in Michigan, he likes Coach Jackson (Michigan assistant coach Fred Jackson recruits Alamaba). I don't think his parents really want him going that far away ... but he's going to go up there and take a look."
Tennessee and Alabama are Swain's favorites, with Michigan and Georgia numbers three/four.
Tell us about Jayson as an athlete.
"As as athlete, I've never seen one better -- and I've been coach for quite a while and have seen several kids who have gone on to college and a few to the pros. Jayson is the most aggressive, the strongest ... and his change of direction is uncanny. He plays quarterback and wide receiver for us, and when we need him, corner or free safety on defense."
"We've had coaches here from all over the country, from as far away as Michigan, Washington and Oregon. Everyone says he's the best in the country. He made the USA Today's Preseason Top 25 Prospects."
How about as a person and a student?
"He's a great young man, a role model, a leader, the hardest working kid on team ... he's a 'nose to the grindstone' type."
"Academically Grisson High School is in the top 10% in the country -- Auburn University has more Grisson kids than any other school. Jayson came in here and has worked hard. He's got a 17 ACT score and he's going to be a full qualifier. Right now Jayson has a football season to finish, and he needs to compete core curriculum. So he's a busy young man."
