A few months ago, Vaughn Telemaque’s recruitment seemed to be coming into focus. The 6-2 187-pounder had taken a few visits to the top contenders on his list and the University of Michigan appeared to be leading the pack. Then Lloyd Carr stepped down from his post and the majority of his assistants, (including Telemaque’s recruiter Ron English), moved on to different jobs. Those developments prompted the talented youngster to come up with a re-worked that no longer included Michigan. Things once again seemed to be coming into focus, until now.
“I talked to I believe Coach Shafer,” Telemaque said referring to Michigan’s newly hired defensive coordinator. “He was telling me that they were still interested in me and that they were just getting settled in. They hadn’t talked to me and he said that he was calling all of the recruits that he has that Michigan was recruiting. He saw my name on the board so he called me to see if I was still interested.”
“Right now I’m kind of leaning towards Oregon,” continued Telemaque. “I feel like USC is behind them. I’ve been telling people that I’m going on a trip to Miami next week. I was telling Coach Shafer that I hadn’t got the chance to talk to Michigan. I hadn’t talked to any coaches out there. The tradition is still the same; I just want to see what the coaches are talking about. I finally got to talk to them so things should be good. Things should be heating up right now. It’s a possibility that I start considering Michigan again. I just want to see what the coaches are talking about. He also said that they were heading out to go see that quarterback that I seen in the Army game. (Terrelle Pryor) He said they were going to go recruit him (Monday) morning. That’s a big time player too. I like what they are talking about right now.”
How much Telemaque likes what he is hearing from the Maize & Blue remains to be seen. An in-home visit from the new coaching could become more of a possibility depending on how things shake out in the coming days.
“(Coach Shafer) said he was going to call me back (Monday) to see where things are now that the possibility of Michigan is back in my mind,” recalled Telemaque. “He said if I’m still interested in them and still considering them then they’ll come in for an in-home visit. I want to talk to Coach Rodriguez and see what he’s talking about.”
Time is of the essence for the Wolverines because signing day is just around the corner, and Telemaque’s decision date looks to be even closer.
“It’s going to be at the end of the month for sure,” Telemaque said regarding when he will make his choice. “I want to do it on the FSN show, but I’ve got to schedule it for an exact date. After I take this Miami trip, I might get another one in at the end of the month. If I don’t then I’ll make my decision at the end of the month.”
