No. 1 Wolverines Going East

No. 1 Michigan learned on Sunday afternoon that it will skate in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The regional will be hosted in Albany, N.Y., with the Wolverines skated in the second game friday night. The Wolverines will drop the puck against CHA Champion Niagara in the first round at 7:30 p.m.

The No. 1 Michigan ice hockey team learned on Sunday afternoon that it will be going east to the Albany, N.Y., regional of the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

With a record of 31-5-4 on the season, the Wolverines are the No. 1 seed in the 16-team bracket. Joining the Wolverines in Albany is second seed Clarkson, the third seed, St. Cloud State, and the fourth seed, Niagara.

The Wolverines will open tournament play against Niagara at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

Other top-seeded teams are No. 2 Miami in the Northeast Regional, No. 3 North Dakota in the Midwest Regional and No. 4 New Hampshire in the West Regional. Tickets for the Wolverines East Regional are for sale today only until 5:00 p.m. at the Michigan ticket office.
