More Recruitng Love on the Way for Ferrell?

Youngstown (OH) Liberty LB Julius Ferrell hasn't received the same amount of recruiting attention as teammates Isaiah Bell and Fitzgerald Toussaint, but that could soon change according to his high school coach, Jeff Whitaker.

The University of Michigan has already harvested one prospect from Youngtown (OH) Liberty high this recruiting season (S, Isaiah Bell), and may be on the verge of adding yet another (ATH, Fitzgerald Toussaint). According to Liberty coach Jeff Whitaker, his stable of college talent doesn’t end there. He expects linebacker Julius Ferrell to be on the receiving end of some serious recruiting attention as well… maybe even from the Wolverines.

“Michigan hasn’t been in contact with him as much as the other kids, but he had an injury his junior year,” Whittaker explained. “Julius had a severe sprain on the inside and outside ligaments in his knee. He missed seven games so he is behind a little bit in the whole recruiting process. Julius needs to go to those one-day senior camps and possibly wait (to make a decision) even into the football season so college coaches can see more film and see how he recovered from his injury. He is still very open to several teams and has (received) very strong interest at the next level.”

Ferrell accompanied Whittaker, Bell, and Toussaint on a Michigan practice visit a few weeks back and reportedly found the Maize & Blue appealing. According to his coach, it’s just a matter of time before big time programs like Michigan begin to reciprocate more seriously.

“He is going to be a division one prospect, no doubt,” Whittaker said emphatically. “He just does not have the game film right now. That puts him at a deficit at this early recruiting process. He will be a guy to keep an eye on this once college coaches can see him in person and see his game film his senior year.”

Whittaker feels his 6-1, 225-lb. backer has the ideal attributes to patrol the middle at the college level.

“Julius has good size, good speed, and has a nose for the ball,” said Whittaker. “He is physical, strong inside linebacker who is a big athlete that is very talented physically. Julius is very aggressive and very talented athlete he is one of those big strong athletic linebackers that a lot of programs are looking for nowadays to stop the run and track down running backs sideline to sideline.”
