Jones Beginning to Focus on Recruiting

Columbus, GA standout Jarvis Jones is one of the most heavily recruited linebackers in the South. The Peach State star is beginning to concentrate more on recruiting, and Michigan is one of the teams of interest. Will distance from home be a factor in his choice. Carver High Coach Dale McGee gives GoBlueWolverine the latest.

Jarvis Jones Profile

GoBlueWolverine: Tell us a little bit about Jarvis as a player

Coach McGee: “He is a good football player, a very vocal leader, a guy that keeps his poise, and is very intense on the field. He is a leader on and off the field and really takes the younger players under his wing to help them out. He also plays basketball and is a leader on the floor as well.”

GoBlueWolverine: How many offers does he have at this point? Does he have any interest in Michigan?

Coach McGee: “He has offers from across the country with Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Michigan, and lot more, but it’s hard to keep in track of them all. Yeah he has interest in Michigan, but right now, he is looking at many schools. He has just started his recruiting process.”

GoBlueWolverine: Has he gone on any unofficial visits?

Coach McGee: “He visited unofficially Auburn, Georgia, and Clemson so far. He is looking to visit several other schools this summer if he can take trips. He probably will not go to anymore camps or combines with all the offers he has right now unless he is just going to visit those college campuses at the same time.”

GoBlueWolverine: What are going to be the most significant factors in his decision? Will distance from home play a role?

Coach McGee: “I don’t think distance will be a factor. It all depends on how he likes the coaching staff, the campus, and the whole environment of the college campus. I know he is interested in places like USC and Michigan right now so distance should not be a factor. He really likes those programs. Can I see him going far away? Yes, but also I can see him staying closer to home as well. It is early in the process now for Jarvis. He is just sorting through all the teams that are interested in him.”

GoBlueWolverine: Who will help Jarvis in his decision-making process?

Coach McGee: “He is a pretty laid back kid and he will make the best decision for himself. I am always available for any of my kids if they want it. He is a kid that really will look at the best situation for himself off and on the football field.”

GoBlueWolverine: Does he have a timetable for his decision?

Coach McGee: “He is going through the whole process and will be a late signing type of guy. Not sure if he will wait for signing day or not because he might announce on the Army game. He was invited and he accepted to play in that game. It seems like they really try to push kids to announce on those All-American games.”

GoBlueWolverine: How good do you think your team will be this year?

Coach McGee: With Jarvis we should be very good on defense, but it might take some time on offense because we lost 23 seniors all-together… some very good players on offense. We lost many players to division one programs. We should get better and better as the season goes on. We need our defense to carry our team at the beginning of the year.”

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Jones in the coming days.
