GoBlueWolverine spoke with the Pahokee, Fla. head coach Blaze Thompson about his star players Nu'keese Richardson and Brandin Hawthorne.
GoBlueWolverine: What kind of players are Nu'Keese and Brandin on the field?
"Nu'Keese (5-9, 160) is very a skilled player who was a hard hitting safety for us, but now he is a game changer, a leader, and a very good person -- great kid. He will stretch the field and knows what to do with the ball at wide receiver."
"Brandin (6-0, 180) is a 'hard-hitting psycho' is the best way to put it. He is a great kid that will compete."
GoBlueWolverine: What positions are most of the college coaches looking at Nu'Keese and Brandin to play at the next level?
"Nu'Keese was a quarterback at one time, so he knows what every position is supposed to do -- he is a very smart football player. I have been told (colleges see him) as a wideout, but I can see him as a slot receiver as well, depending on what school and system he chooses."
"Brandin is being told outside linebacker who can run and make big hits along with making solid tackles."
GoBlueWolverine: What teams are at the top right now for Nu'Keese?
Coach Thompson: "I think Florida, USC, Michigan, Georgia, and possibly South Carolina and Florida State."
GoBlueWolverine: What are going to be the deciding factors for Nu'Keese and Brandin in their college decisions?
Coach Thompson: "I think honestly all kinds of things really: depth chart, Odoms (U-M signee Martavious Odoms), the school itself, and how they gel with the coaches. A program like Michigan is a powerhouse that is always competing, so they are a program that will be in it to the end for many kids. Distance should not be a factor. So I believe Michigan has a good chance to land them because of the style of offense for Nu'Keese that suits him in the spread offense, and with Brandon that they need players on the defensive side of the ball. Michigan is a great program."
GoBlueWolverine: What is the timeline for Nu'Keese making a decision?
Coach Thompson: "His plan is to commit after the spring game that we have on May 29. Therefore, I think it will be soon after our spring game or it might be right after the spring game. So look for it soon. He is planning on going to several camps/combines, but I'm not sure if he will be able to make it to Michigan because of the distance and expense of the trip."
GoBlueWolverine: What kind of chance does Michigan have for Nu'Keese and Brandin?
Coach Thompson: "Well, with having Odoms ... it is always a good thing for Michigan because he is such a great kid who is well liked by his teammates."
