Koehne Talks Michigan Camp

Indianapolis Cathedral OT Kyle Koehne was one of many talented linemen in Ann Arbor on Sunday for the Michigan Wolverines' one day camp. A prospect with a handful of BCS conference offers already, Koehne talked about his first visit to Michigan and the likelihood that they will join that offer list.

The last two days have been hectic for Kyle Koehne. The Indianapolis Cathedral product was in Ann Arbor for Michigan’s one day camp on Sunday, and yesterday he traveled to Gainesville where he camped with the Wolverines’ Capital One Bowl opponent Florida.

All this is part of a camp tour in which the 6’5, 290-lb offensive tackle hopes to add to an offer list that recently reached five when Louisville joined a mix that already included North Carolina State, Indiana, Iowa and Cincinnati.

The Wolverines had not been a team Kohne mentioned much throughout the early part of the recruiting process, but they recently jumped into the fold.

“They had been sending me some letters, nothing special,” he explained. “Then Coach Tall called me and told me about the camp so I decided to come up.”

Koehne was happy he did, as he was one of the more impressive linemen throughout the morning session and carried that over into the afternoon one on ones.

“I think I did real good," said Koehne. "I didn’t lose much (in the one on ones). As for the visit itself, he said, “It was awesome. I liked it a lot and I like Coach Frye a lot. The campus is nice, the facilities are, and I like Coach Rodriguez too.”

During the camp, the morning and afternoon sessions were divided by lunchtime activities which included a tour of the academic center and the new weight room. It was in that weight room where Koehne took part in a guided tour by new strength and conditioning director Mike Barwis.

“I also liked the strength and conditioning coach a lot,” he reported." "He knew a lot about the body and had some good theories. The weight room and the equipment were impressive.”

After Florida, Koehne will continue his summer road swing through his list of schools. On Thursday, he will be at Boston College, then he will stop at Notre Dame for camp with the Fighting Irish. Following that he will be taking unofficial visits to Iowa, Louisville and North Carolina State... all in an effort to narrow down his list. While he doesn’t have any favorites at the moment, Sunday’s trip to Ann Arbor made the Maize & Blue a possibility.

“I talked to Coach Frye, he said I was real impressive today," Koehne recalled. "He said I did a great job and he told me to call him later in the week. Right now I’m still pretty open. I’d like to make a decision this summer, that’s my plan.”
