Travis Hawkins has his eyes on Michigan

Gaithersburg, Maryland CB Travis Hawkins was tentatively heading for Ann Arbor for a June visit, but it didn't happen. However, he tells GoBlueWolverine, he is still thinking hard about the Maize and Blue.

Gaithersburg, Maryland CB Travis Hawkins has teams throughout the country wanting him to commit to their school. The list is very long: Michigan, Miami, Ohio State, Maryland, Oregon, Illinois, and Virginia Tech among others.

His talent at the cornerback position is the reason's #56 rising-senior is receiving so much attention. The 5-11 DB has 4.4 speed and ball hawking up-in-your-face corner skills.

Michigan is a team that indeed has reason to feel like they have a solid shot with him.

Michigan has two people in there corner who just might help them in recruiting Travis. One person he is real cool with, and the other person he admires very much.

"My friend Anthony Nettles loves Michigan," he told GoBlueWolverine. "He is always telling me about them. I took a visit to Ohio State and he did not want me to talk about it -- he is a big Michigan fan."

The other person he speaks very highly of is none other then Charles Woodson. "Man, Charles was nasty on both sides of the ball. I watch his highlights a lot. I like the way he plays -- I would like to play both sides of the ball."

With the success Michigan has had at turning out defensive backs it certainly gives them a chance with Travis. "Hey Charles came out of there. I definitely want to visit Ann Arbor and see everything."

"I watch a lot of Big Ten games and I look at Michigan games. They play with a lot of swagger and I like that. I would like to talk to Coach Rodriguez and defensive backs coach Tony Gibson about how I will be used, and about playing the field boundary corner (lockdown corner)."

And so far the Michigan staff has been keeping in contact with Hawkins as well. "I have talked to both Coach Schafer and Coach Dews. Coach Dews came to the school to watch me work out, and he came down and spoke with my coaches. He just wants us to give them a chance at recruiting me."

As far as what he is looking for in a school, Hawkins, said, "I am a people person. I want good coaches and good academics. It is important to be comfortable around the people you are with."

So when will visit Michigan? "I was suppose to visit after my (June 10th) Ohio State visit but we couldn't make it ... so maybe we'll go to Michigan after the summer."

Hawkins will not be waiting until Signing Day to make his decision because, he says, "I will be graduating in December most likely."

(Note: Hawkins is the teammate of DE Jason Ankrah,'s #246 rising-senior, whom U-M is also recruiting altho they have not offered as of yet.)
