"There are a lot more schools coming out the woodwork now saying that they offered me, but yeah I'm still interested in Michigan," Montgomery replied when asked if the Wolverines are still on his list. "Of course! I just talked to Michigan two weeks ago. I think it was the defensive coordinator."
At this point Montgomery's interest Rich Rodriguez's program is based solely on his knowledge of the strong tradition in Ann Arbor and his love of the Motor City. Broadening his understanding of the Maize & Blue is something he hopes to achieve in the coming months.
"I know Michigan is a very good program… and I also know that Michigan has snow," Montgomery said laughing. "I also know that the school is near Detroit, so that's an automatic plus for me. I've just got to go up there and see it. I'm going to plan that out in the summer time and probably try to make it to a game or two."
Montgomery has already traveled to a few campuses this summer, and one school received a significant bump up his list thanks to a visit.
"I use to think that UNC wasn't a good school, but it actually ended up being a really great school," the youngster reported. "Right now I'm really feeling North Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina, Clemson, Miami, LSU, USC, Oregon, and Oklahoma. That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. I plan to narrow it down some this summer and then more during the season. I haven't set up anymore visits yet. I've got to get some set up in the summer time."
On every trip Montgomery will pay special attention to a few specific factors.
"I'm looking at the brotherhood, the academic program, and are they nice people," he explained. "I'm not looking at location. It don't matter where it's at. It's the academic program."
Figuring out which of his suitors best fit those criteria isn't a task Montgomery plans to complete anytime soon.
"I'm probably going to make a decision 24 hours before signing day," he said.
