Ash Aiming for Early Decision

The Keller, TX offensive guard talks about Michigan, his feelings on the Big 10, and also his feelings on the Big House. Are the Wolverines #1 on his list?

In 2008, the Michigan Wolverines made a huge push in recruiting the offensive line, bringing in six new bodies to help steward in the new offense. However with the attrition up front has kept depth up front a concern. One of the names that emerged on the spring/summer recruiting radar was that of Keller, TX OG Nick Ash.

"In my freshman year it was just drilled into my head to play to the whistle and never give up on a block and just finish," Ash said describing his game.

The Maize & Blue still haven't offered the intense youngster, but if they ever do it will make a resounding statement.

"Other than Michigan, I'd have to say Nebraska, Purdue, Texas Tech, Arizona and Vanderbilt are my top schools," Ash reported. "They're (Michigan) not really #1, because I don't have an offer from them, so it's hard to put them there. If I got an offer it would put them really high up."

"Michigan is just in the Big 10 and that's just great because you're able to play against amazing athletes every week," he added. "Playing in the Big House would be amazing."

Ash, who has already visited Ann Arbor unofficially this summer, hopes to get a few more visits in before the start of fall practice. He will be taking on trips to Nebraska and Purdue in the coming weeks, but doesn't have much planned after that.

"I don't know when I'll take officials," he said. "Both my parents and I are still deciding where to go."

The absence of a fall itinerary is a clear sign that Ash hopes to make a decision sooner rather than later.

"I wanted to kind of make a decision before my season starts so I don't have to worry about it," he admitted. "Maybe take a few officials if I need too. When I'm looking at a school, #1 is the academics. (After that), somewhere I can play football and not worry about life after. Then probably the conference and the coaches."
