Mississippi wideout Bumphis Talks Michigan

The Tupelo, Miss. standout takes time to discuss Michigan, the rest of his recruiting, and U-M's MS recruiter Jay Hopson -- who has more connections to the young man than just as a recruiter.

"I'm real fast, I'm quick on my feet. I like getting the ball in space and making people miss."

It's a familiar refrain from offensive recruits for this new era at the University of Michigan. Tupelo Mississippi's Chad Bumphis (5-10, 180, 4.4) is another one of those guys. Being recruited for slot by Michigan coach Jay Hopson, U-M is a school that sticks out in the receiver's eyes.

"Michigan has offered me for sure," Bumphis told GoBlueWolverine.

For what position? "Receiver. Slot probably," he said.

"Jay Hopson is recruiting me. I like him a lot," Bumphis said, adding, "He played at Ole Miss with one of my coaches when they played."

As far as his favorites, he said, "I like Mississippi State, Alabama, LSU, and Florida from the SEC. Ya'll are the only school outside the SEC that I want to consider."

"But I'm wide open still."

For now, the Wolverines have definitely made an impression on the young man from SEC country.

"I like the tradition, man. I just love all the winning. During the time when I take my officials I'm definitely using one on them (Michigan)."

During the season if and when Bumphis can make it to Ann Arbor, he'll be looking for a few things.

"I want to bond and get along real well with the coaches. And I want to make sure they have a strong academic center. And I want to see where I'm going to be on the depth chart."

But don't expect a decision anytime soon from Scout.com's 22nd ranked receiver.

"I'm not going to rush to make a decision, I'm just going to wait until I feel comfortable."

Can the Wolverines can offer that comfort? Time will tell.
