"I've visited West Virginia, South Florida and I'm taking an official visit during the season to Michigan. Basically, I'm going to Michigan, West Virginia, Tennessee and Louisville for visit, I'm not going to South Florida, I'm going to Iowa State instead (for his five officials)."
With an announcement closing in, Hawthorne will not have time to take his visits before his decision, so he says he will continue to take visits even after he commits.
His official visit up to Ann Arbor this fall will be his first trip up to the Great Lakes, but he already has eyes and ears all around campus and is already hearing good things.
"I like that I have a former teammate up there, I've got Martavious Odoms," Hawthorne said, "I talk to him like every day. He said they have unbelievable dorms and it's an unbelievable area." A friend of Hawthorne's who committed to an ACC school also took a visit up to Michigan earlier this year. "His mom told me I'm going to love it at Michigan," Hawthorne said.
As for the coaching staff at Michigan, Hawthorne has nothing but positive words for Rod Smith and Scott Shafer, the two men at the head of his recruitment for the Wolverines.
"I like the coaches there, I've built really good relationships with them."
Hawthorne says the Wolverines are recruiting him as a linebacker. However, he is something of a renaissance man for Pahokee and when we see him on August 30th, he will be moving from linebacker to defensive end to tight end to possibly even defensive tackle.
Of course, we will also see him sporting the hat of one lucky program. With his teammates also deciding the same day, might that same school receive a package deal from Pahokee?
"Not really," Hawthorne responded, "but Vincent has been talking about Michigan too."
