"Ya'll don't want none."
So said Alabama DB Dre Kirkpatrick (6-2, 180, Scout.com's #50 Rising-senior). to a teammate as he picked up the phone to talk to GBW before practice yesterday. Listening to him and his teammates talk trash to each other lets you know how excited they are to get on the field. It also tells you what going on all over high school football fields across America ... but very few teams have a player that can back the talk up like Kirkpatrick and his Gadsden team. Dre is extremely confident in what he himself is able to do on the gridiron.
Before practice startd he gave GBW a little insight as to how the day is going to go with him on the field. "Coach is not going to throw to my side -- they know better," he said with a laugh. "I get bored over there."
The season can't get here fast enough for him: "Man I can't wait for the season to begin we have a tough schedule and we are ready for it."
Kirkpatrick's football season is close to starting ... But as far as picking a school he is not close on a decision. He has colleges all over the country clamoring for his services, and for now they are all put on hold so he and his mom can sort things out.
"Right now me and my mom are just going thru the process to find the best situation for me," he said. "We just want to take our time and make the right decision."
Does making that right decision mean staying close to home? "No, not at all. I am just keeping my options open."
The Southern schools are making an impression though. Florida State continues to impress him along with instate schools Alabama and Auburn.
I visited Florida State and I had a really good time down there. I had a chance to see Derrick Brooks (former Florida State player and current Tampa Bay Linebacker) and that was a lot of fun. Alabama and Auburn are right up there as well just because they are close to home."
Outside of the Southern schools, Dre is keeping an eye on two other schools that stand out to him: "Michigan and USC. I am really looking at both of them. They are places not close to home but they are showing me a lot of love."
As he tries to narrow down the schools that are recruiting to a list of ten he says, "Michigan will certainly be in my top ten."
Kilpatrick is in no rush to make a decision -- for right now it is all about his upcoming football season.
"I am exicited for the season. With the team we have (including fellow 5-star prospect WR Kendall Kelly) we should make some noise!"
Barthwell on Kirkpatrick ... Dre on Dre
