After sorting through a final list of Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, Pahokee tailback Vincent Smith is finally ready to anoint a winner. In an effort to maintain whatever suspense there is left, he is keeping that decision to himself. One thing he is not holding back about, though, is what his plan is for after he makes his commitment.
"I'm still going to take visits to all of the schools," Smith said.
One of those trips will obviously be to the school he commits to. He declined to confirm the rumors that Michigan will indeed be that school, but he did acknowledge that the Maize & Blue has a lot going for it.
"They were talking about how in the new offensive scheme they're trying to run, they're looking for quick scat backs," Smith said recalling prior conversations with Wolverine coaches. "I'd go great with their offense and what they're trying to do. I have good quickness, speed, and also I'm a little back but I have some power and I know how to block."
Another clear advantage is the presence of former teammate Martavious Odoms. The success he experienced in fall camp has definitely been a topic of conversation back in Pahokee.
"Martavious says he loves it," reported Smith. "They say he already has his starting position. I was hearing about it. I haven't called about it him yet. I was going to call him soon because we have to get ready for a big game against Olive Branch from Mississippi."
"We've been talking about it," Smith admitted. "It's a big deal."
We'll find out just how big tomorrow at 3 PM.
