Matt Vogrich made his way to Ann Arbor for a second time this past weekend. His first unofficial visit covered the academic side that Michigan has to offer. This time he was there to get a better feel for what the university has to offer.
"Well, I was with the team a lot more," Vogrich reported. "I was with Stu (Douglass) a lot, Kelvin (Grady), Anthony Wright, I was with a lot of players on the team. I went out with them at night. I hung out with Zack Novak, I was with him a lot. We hung out in his dorm and stuff. I was with the team a lot more and just got a feel for it. I liked them a lot. I liked hanging out with Zack, I like Coach Beilein a lot, and I think I fit in well."
Vogrich also was able to take in the football game, and even though the Wolverines couldn't come away with a win, it didn't put a damper on his visit.
"It was a great atmosphere," he said. "They lost, but it was still a good atmosphere, good crowd."
The heavily recruited shooting guard even got a chance to get a little hardwood action in while in town.
"I played once with the team," he said. "I played fine with them, I shot it well. They're not selfish at all. They involved me so I think I gelled with them alright."
The experience definitely moved the Wolverines into the upper tier of Vogrich's recruitment. The question is, what other school, or schools, sit atop that perch with the Maize & Blue?
Notre Dame seemed to hold a strong position early on, but now Vogrich doesn't believe the Fighting Irish will be his ultimate destination. When asked what his list looks like currently, he replied, "Stanford or Michigan". A decision could be reached within the next week.
If Vogrich does indeed choose Michigan, he could be a huge addition and contributor to next year's Wolverine squad. A 2009 class of Darius Morris, Matt Vogrich and Jordan Morgan (and maybe even another big man somewhere down the line) would be a successful haul for this UM staff.
GoBlueWolverine will have more on Vogrich in the coming days.
