His Recruiting Story
After receiving his first offer in October of 2007 from Saint Louis, Lake Forrest sniper Matt Vogrich wanted more. He knew he was a high major division one player and he proved it to the non believers this past summer starting in Las Vegas. National Recruiting Director for Dave Telep was surely impressed.

"We heard the rumors and now we've seen the player. He stroked five 3-pointers in the game we saw, went off the dribble and then capped the day off by telling us he's got a big ACT score. There's a striking resemblance in appearance to Coby Karl and Matt Causey. Mid-majors have pretty much conceded him and now it's just a matter of who steps up with the offer. It's over 100 degrees here and Vogrich is white hot."

With Vogrich now reporting offers from Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Colorado and other interest from Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford and UCLA, Vogrich obtained his goal.

Both of Matt's parents went to Big Ten school's (father to Illinois, mother to Wisconsin) so he always envisioned himself in a Big Ten uniform. However, it was Notre Dame and Stanford to take the midway lead for the 6'4 shooter. That is, until he visited Michigan for the second time early October for a fall football game at the Big House. His first visit to Ann Arbor Vogrich got to see the academics UM has to offer. His second visit was to get a better feel for the campus life and basketball program.

"Well, I was with the team a lot more," Vogrich reported. "I was with Stu (Douglass) a lot, Kelvin (Grady), Anthony Wright, I was with a lot of players on the team. I went out with them at night. I hung out with Zack Novak, I was with him a lot. We hung out in his dorm and stuff. I was with the team a lot more and just got a feel for it. I liked them a lot. I liked hanging out with Zack, I like Coach Beilein a lot, and I think I fit in well."

And that's all it took. Vogrich committed to the University of Michigan shortly after his visit. He knew what he wanted all along.

GoBlueWolverine Commentary
John Beilein needed a couple more guards in this class to compliment his strikers in 2008 and Vogrich does just that. Obviously known his shooting, Matt's also a fairly scrappy defender who has a little 'dog' in him. His handles are those of a strong two guard maybe bring the ball up the court a few times, but he probably couldn't handle playing the point for an extended period of time. He has improved his vertical up to 32 inches now. Word has it he was dunking on kids at the end of the summer AAU circuit.

Like Morris, Vogrich could probably add a little bulk to his 185lb frame to compete at the highest level of the Big Ten. He will also continue to recruit AAU teammate Angus Brandt for the Wolverines throughout the spring.
