Gibbons Could Fill Dual Roles for UM

West Palm Beach (FL) Cardinal Newman K, Brendan Gibbons wasted little time deciding whether to accept Michigan's offer earlier today. Upon doing so it became clear that kicking may not be the only special teams duty he has.

A few months ago it appeared Michigan was no longer an option for West Palm Beach (FL) kicker Brendan Gibbons.  The Wolverines had a kicker in the fold and Gibbons, meanwhile, was exploring options closer to home.  But when word came recently that Rodriguez & company were once again interested, the strong legged youngster seized the opportunity to make them like him even more.

"I sent in my mid season highlight tape and then I kicked with (former Michigan kicker) Brandon Kornblue and then he sent a tape of me."

"I am 10/12 on field goals and I am 10/11 on extra points," Gibbons continued.  "I'm pretty sure that 93% of my kickoffs were touchbacks.   I guess they really liked me."

Gibbons, who will kick in Florida's North vs. South All Star game, found out just  how much they liked him in a phone call earlier today.

"They offered me at 12:00," he recalled. "When I committed they were happy.  They really liked it.  It's a great program with great tradition.  It's a good school and I look forward to playing."

Also showing interest in Gibbons were a number of Sunshine State programs including Miami and USF. So too was Wake Forest.

With his recruitment now out of the way, Gibbons is bursting at the seams to don the Maize & Blue.

"I can't wait to get there," he said.  "They said I might be punting too.  I'm averaging 46 yards  per punt."
