Leon Hall's, Steve Smith's Teams Lose

Michigan commitment Leon Hall and his Vista, Calif. team lost Saturday night in the Div. 1 San Diego Division finals -- despite a great game by Hall. And Michigan recruit Steve Smith and his Woodland Hills Taft team lost Friday in the Los Angeles Division finals.<br><br> For both games, GoBlueWolverine's correspondent Don Hoekwater was there! Michigan commitment Leon Hall and his defending champion Vista, Calif. team lost a heartbreaker Saturday night, 14-13 night to Carlsbad at Qualcomm Stadium (home of the San Diego Chargers). Vista had defeated Carlsdad 45-7 during the regular season this year, and 29-28 in last year's semi-finals.

According to Don Hoekwater, Hall had a great game with two interceptions (one a touchdown-saver).

Michigan recruit Steve Smith and his Woodland Hills Taft team lost Friday in the Div. 1 Los Angeles Division finals, 35-7 to Los Angeles Birmingham.

Smith (tentative official visit Jan 10 or 17, 6-1, 185 lbs., 4.45 in the 40) made six catches in the game to become the all-time leading pass receiver in California state history, 271. Taft had defeated Birmingham in the regular season.

According to Don Hoekwater, there were a half-dozen USC players at the game, and a couple USC coaches (USC is considered Smith's favorite). And Smith's coach told Don that he knew nothing about a Michigan visit.
