Monday: Recruiting Happenings Next Few Days

**MONDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: Probable and possible decision-makers this week.

And JC DB Ryan Patterson.

Announcing this morning: All-American wide receiver Jayson Swain (Nov. 2 official visit, Alabama Nike stats: 6-2, 205 lbs., 4.45 in the 40, 34-inch vertical jump, 2.8 GPA/15 ACT) from Huntsville, Ala., Grissom. Tennessee is generally thought to lead Michigan. He is The Insiders' #65 prospect, and has been selected to the final roster of the US Army All-Star Game in San Antonio in January.
NOON UPDATE: Swain picked Tennessee.

AFTERNOON UPDATE: Deciding Wdnesday (Ryan had told us this last week but had asked us to keep it 'quiet'): All-American defensive back/‘athlete' Ryan Mundy (Nov. 2 official visit, PSU Nike stats: 6-2, 200 lbs., 16 reps of 185 lbs.; 4.45 in the 40, 10.7 100 meters, 290-lb. bench press, 2.7 GPA/830 SAT in 2001) from Pittsburgh, Penn., Woodland Hills (former teammate of Steve Breaston). He was at Virginia this past weekend. NC State and Pitt are in it as well -- and Michigan of course. He is Tom Lemming's #29 prospect, and has been selected to the final roster of the US Army All-Star Game in San Antonio in January.

Perhaps deciding this week: All-American running back Lynell Hamilton (Dec. 6 official visit, Stanford Nike stats: 6-0, 195 lbs., 4.25 shuttle, 28-inch vertical jump ... 4.4 in the 40, 3.0 GPA) from Stockton, Calif., Edison. His best rating is as Tom Lemming's #124 prospect.

Deciding Thursday afternoon: All-American defensive/tight end Doug Van Dyke (Dec. 6 official visit, 6-6, 235 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 2.4 GPA/21 ACT) from Marshall, Mich. It is own to Purdue and Michigan. He is TheInsiders' #81 prospect.

Regarding Juco DB Ryan Patterson (6-0, 200) from Pima, Ariz. CC. He's a safety who a couple years ago, going into his senior year of high school, got some early mention. And he wanted to go to Michigan -- he made no bones about it at the time. He's a DB who played his high school ball in Azizona, has family in Michigan, and may actually have been a Michigan camper as well if I recall.

This is a case of 'never stop recruiting until the final bell'. Right now he reportedly has a Jan. 10 visit scheduled. We'll interview him if/when he turns into a real recruit. The academics of JC kids getting into U-M are tricky for one thing ...

As far as a report of a 'U-M commitment' by him. The JC coaches just get a little overrambunctious sometimes (remember James Taylor last year, the Juco kid - and former signee out of high school - who 'committed' again last year ...).
