GBW Army Interview: Barkevious Mingo

After Army AA practice Tuesday afternoon GoBlueWolverine spoke with Alabama outside linebacker Mingo. Do the Wolverines really have a shot with this Southern guy?

You're visiting Michigan next weekend?

"Yes. The visit is all set."

This is your first official visit, isn't it? Where else are you going?

"Yeah, it's the only one I have scheduled. But I plan to set up visits with LSU, USC and Alabama too."

Have you been to Michigan before? Or do you have family in Michigan?

"No, I've never been there, I've never been North. And I don't have family up there or anything. I just have liked Michigan all my life, I've always followed them."

So, realistically, is Michigan in 4th place of your four schools?

"Huh? No. They all have equal shots. But right now, before visiting anywhere, they're, at the worst, third. I'd put them above USC."

On the field this week, you're being used as a weakside linebacker ... is that where you see yourself playing in college?

"Well that's where they're using me here. But I'll play wherever my coaches want me too -- I don't care."

Scouting Report: we'd said this (Tuesday) morning in running drills that Mingo was the last one in, and was always lined up away from the strongside, and was always away from the play. However, this afternoon the drills were passing drills -- and here Mingo was the 'main man' as far as linebackers. He was in for all the passing downs. Why? Quickness is his game for the 6-4+, 200 pound OLB. In fact, with the West's two great cornerbacks, Dre Kirkpatrick and Gabe Lynn, and with the East's propensity to throw over the middle to slotman Jeremy Gallon anyway -- we could see a long of Gallon-on-Mingo on Saturday.
