Coach Tharp had this to say about his star player Michael Brown (6-3 1/2, 220 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 2.5 GPA/16 ACT) from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
"Michael's in the middle of exams right now -- that's why you haven't been able to reach him. He's taking two exams a day this week, and then they go right home to study for the next day's."
Regarding his Michigan visit this past weekend:
"We talked about his Michigan visit last weekend. He really enjoyed it. He was very impressed with things up there. Coach Carr confirmed a scholarship offer to him while he was there."
Regarding his recruiting status:
"I'd say it's Michigan and Virginia Tech for him right now. He and his parents are weighing the options. The in-home visits are very important to his parents. Right now he has two visits set in January, to Boston College (Jan. 24) and Central Florida (Jan 17). He may or may not take those visits, depending on when Michigan coaches make their in-home visit and what things look like at that point to him and his family (note: Virginia Tech has already made their in-home visit). He might decide by New Years or he might take his January visits -- it just depends on how work out."
Regarding Michael as a player.
"Michael is a true defensive end, and that's what he will play in college. He had to by necessity play out of position at inside linebacker for us this year, and he had a good year. But he was better as a D-end his junior year. His frame is made for defensive end, and he'll be a good one at the college level."
This season Brown made 121 tackles for his 8-3 Gators team.
