The Michigan Wolverines have made a strong surge of late in the recruitment of Leesville, LA ATH Travante Stallworth. Rich Rodriguez and assistant Fred Jackson looked to continue the positive momentum when they made their way to the Bayou State for a little face-time with him.
"They weren't able to come by the house but they did come by the school and met with me and my mom," Stallworth said. "We were just touching bases again about all of the schools recruiting me and how they would use me in their offense. He told me how (Michigan) would use me. We run the same offense that they do from head to toe with all of the formations that they have.
Stallworth already had a pretty good feel for how he'd be utilized in Ann Arbor thanks to his recent official visit, so this interaction was more about getting a better feel for the coaches and what his relationships with them would be like.
"(Rodriguez) was just talking to us like we were some of his friends," Stallworth said. "The same person he was up there, he was down here. He was real friendly. He met my coach's wife and a lot of other people that kept walking in the office. He met everybody and really talked to all of us. My coach asked a lot of questions about graduation rate and how the school works. He told my head coach he could come up and watch some spring practices and things. Everything went real good."
Needless to say, the Maize & Blue coaches made strong impressions on the youngster's mother and his coach.
"They really liked Coach Rod and Coach Jackson," stated Stallworth. "They said I need to really consider that school because of the academics and everything that they have going on. Plus Coach Rod is a great coach and I will get some playing time."
The meeting certainly helped Michigan strengthen its position on the three-star prospect's list of favorites, but there are a few other prime contenders still standing. They too are working hard to gain a last minute edge.
"Coach Spurrier Jr. from South Carolina just left my house and I had a real good talk with him," Stallworth reported. "Mississippi State came by yesterday. They want me to come visit on the 30th and I think I'm going to. I'm going to Auburn tomorrow. The top three right now are Auburn, South Carolina, and Michigan."
The last two visits are all that stands between Stallworth and a decision. Once he returns home from Starkville, an announcement could come at any time.
"Aint no telling when I'm going to make my announcement," he said. "It might come before signing day it might come on signing day. I really don't know right now."
