Merry Christmas from GBW

Season's Greetings from Tom Beaver, Matt Pargoff, Sam Webb and Daniel Eubanks at GBW. We are letting Michigan's recruits enjoy their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in peace. So as a special Holiday gift to you -- here are some Juniors!

We generally do not like to look ahead to high school juniors until the current recruiting class is 'signed, sealed and delivered' -- but what the heck, it's Christmas. Our friend and instate high school guru "Jim S." told us, "I can say with relative certainty is that the junior class will have more Michigan-caliber players than this year's senior class, and none too soon with all the scholarships we will have available next year. These aren't necessarily all of the best instate juniors, just some who I feel U-M has a great shot at landing if they are interested after reviewing film, screening them at camps, etc."

Justin Hoskins, RB, 6-0, 195 lbs., 4.4 in the 40, from Grand Rapids Creston - Next year's Kelly Baraka? With his explosiveness, quickness and athleticism ... possibly.

Morgan Trent, CB, 6-0, 180 lbs., 4.4 in the 40, from Orchard Lake St. Mary's - Impressive at U-M camp last summer, one of state's top sprinters. Didn't garner post-season honors he deserved due to poor St. Mary's season. He attended the Iowa and Wisconsin games.

Roger Allison, LB/FB, 6-2, 225 lbs., from Lake Orion - One tough football player and an animal on the field. Prep version of Dick Butkus. He attended the MSU game.

Jamaal Lock, DE, 6-8, 235 lbs., from Detroit Redford - More noted early on as a basketball prospect but his long-term success will be on the gridiron.

Alex Mitchell, OT, 6-4, 305 lbs., from Bay City Central - Top underclassman in the tough Saginaw Valley attended numerous games this fall and is a Texas native.

John Thompson, LB, 6-2, 230 lbs., from Detroit Crockett - Relative unknown until his jr. season as he sat out as a soph after transferring from Benedictine. Tackle machine with nice athleticism.

Ronald Talley, DE, 6-4, 235 lbs., from Detroit Renaissance - Ronald could be the best prospect to emerge from Renaissance, well, ever. School has solid academics by PSL standards.

Demarco Hughes, DT/OG, 6-4, 270 lbs., from Detroit MacKenzie - Garnered All-Detroit honors with his fine two-way play. Great drive blocker and can run. 61 tackles, 9 sacks.

Derrek Brooks, RB/DB, 6-1, 190, 4.53 lbs., from Detroit Catholic Central (Redford) - Rushed for over 1600 yards in leading team to state Division 1 title. Top prospect to emerge from CC in years. Only played RB but could project at DB. Fluid with nice cutting instincts. He attended the Iowa game.

Brandon Walker, C/DT, 6-3, 275 lbs., from Detroit Martin Luther King - Another junior who was off the radar screen after sitting out his sophomore season after transferring from Oak Park. Garnered First Team All-Detroit honors for this U-M pipeline school. He was spotted at the spring game last April.

Bernard Faithful, DE, 6-4, 215 lbs., from Detroit Martin Luther King - Part of a strong junior class at King he will be a four-year starter and has the sort of size and athleticism that other underrated (as juniors) King prepsters such as Earnest Shazor and Braylon Edwards possessed.

Fred Wilson, RB, 5-11, 210 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, from Detroit MacKenzie - Really excelled at the U-M camp last summer, benches 350, quick feet and strong, had a couple of big games; but he's a bit of a diamond in the rough.

DeMarcus Laury, RB/S, 5-11, 205 lbs., from Saginaw - Cousin of Lamarr Woodley. Not the prospect that Lamarr is, but could be a Jerome Jackson-level recruit. If U-M gets Lamarr they have a better chance of landing DeMarcus. Hampered a bit by an injury this season.

Larry Gibson, PK, 6-1, 210 lbs., from Riverview - One of a couple outstanding kickers in the jr class. Yet to miss a PAT in high school. Alma mater of Lloyd Carr.

Blake Botek, OL/DL, 6-3, 300 lbs., from Grand Ledge - This First Team Lansing Area prospect compares favorably to former Wolverine and Grand Ledger Andy Brown. A Michigan type of lineman.

Charles Stewart, 'Athlete', 6-0, 180 lbs. from Farmington Hills Harrison. He attended the Wisconsin game with his dad (who was decked out in U-M garb) and with his friend lineman Dewayne Roland, 6-3, 260 lbs. from Southfield Lathrup.
