Top Fla Prospects – Broward County (Part 1)

The Wolverines have three coaches on the ground in Florida. By comparison, the only state with as many is Ohio and the only state with more is Michigan. The newfound significance of the Sunshine State, has prompted GoBlueWolverine to assemble lists of the top players in the talent hotbed, region by region. We continue the journey today in the South Florida county of Broward.

OL- Brandon Linder, St. Thomas, 6'5, 275
*First Team All-State for 5A.  First Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel and Miami Herald. Prototype, versatile offensive linemen with the frame, backpedal, and toughness to be a national recruit.  Continues the long line of outstanding St. Thomas offensive linemen.  Back to back state champion.  Close to being physically ready, needs to add a little more  weight and some strength.

QB- Turner Baty, St. Thomas, 6'2, 190
*Former Floridian will transfer in from from California.  Father played pro football and is 6'6. Should excel at St. Thomas. Strong arm, good delivery, can be accurate. West Coast scouts think he will get 2-3 inches taller. At Menlo-Atherton in California he threw for 1,770 yards with 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.  Won the CIF-CCS title(some type of State Championship in California).

QB- Brandon Doughty, North Broward, 6'3, 186
*2nd Team All-State for 2A.  First Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel.  Prototype size, Doughty was the county's leading passer for small schools.  Threw for 2,320 yards and 29 touchdowns.  Has the ability to make the tougher throws to the sidelines and deep over the middle.

QB-  Eddie Sulliven, Boca Raton, 6'1, 185
*Third Team All-State for 4A.  First Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel.  Threw for 2,220 and 30 touchdowns in a no huddle hurry up offense.

RB- Devon Wright, Taravella, 6'0, 185
*First Team All-State for 6A.  First Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel.  Led Broward County in rushing with 1,650 yards and 22 touchdowns.  Has a frame that is coveted by colleges.  Great vision. Could play S down the road, perhaps even grow into a LB.  Solid as a sophomore, became great as a junior.  Faster and shiftier than he appears.

RB- Gio Bernard, St. Thomas, 5'9, 190
*First Team All-State for 5A.  First Team All County by the Miami Herald.  Second Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel.  Ran for 1,528 yards and 18 touchdowns.  Part of the most dynamic running back tandem in the state.  He is the brother of Oregon State legend Yvenson.  Bernard has a tight frame with good power, outstanding vision, quick feet, and enough speed to run past you.

RB- James White, St. Thomas, 5'9, 180
*The second running back from St. Thomas.  White is a great package of power, elusiveness, and speed.  Produces when his number is called.   Would be the feature back at almost any other school.  Has soft hands out of the backfield and has shown good blocking skills.

RB-  Ethan Grant(OREGON), North Broward, 5'9, 165
*Small, wiry, burner who is a play-maker in open field.  Transferred from St.Thomas because of logjam at RB with Bernard, White, and Kennedy.  Skilled runner with some vision.  Will need to add weight to take pounding.  Could be a candidate for the slot.

RB- Cassius Mcdowell, Deerfield Beach, 5'9, 165
*First Team All County by the Miami Herald.  Second Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel.  Ran for 928 yards and 12 touchdowns.  Mcdowell is a smaller back with great burst and deep speed.  He plays tough and is mismatch in space against linebackers or safeties.  Good hands.  Size is the only concern.

RB-  Orwin Etkins, Miramar
*Ran 179 times for 1,115 and 11 touchdowns.  Caught 11 balls.  Played in spread based attack.  Team threw the ball first.  Workhorse at running back.  Tough inside runner.

RB-  Dareyon Chance, Cardinal Gibbons, 5'7, 180
*Small back with outstanding vision and power.   Ran for 932 and nine touchdowns.  He had some great ball games in 2008 like his 138 yard effort vs. Glades Central.  4.5 40 type speed.

WR- Ivan McCartney, Miramar, 6'1, 170
*Second Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel and Miami Herald.  Tall, lean, silky smooth wide receiver with solid speed and a great pair of hands.  Got to play with Geno Smith and was a go to wide receiver in clutch situations.  Plus height.  Projects well to the next level.

WR- Stephen Green, Boyd Anderson, 5'9, 165
*Did not play as a junior, but has looked great at various workouts this off season.   Has great natural ability.

WR- Sean Corker, Cardinal Gibbons, 6'2, 190

TE- Charlie Cowley, Boca Raton Christian, 6'4, 260
*Second Team All-State for 1B.  First Team All County by Palm Beach Post.  Second Team All County by Sun-Sentinel.  Caught 59 balls with five touchdowns.  Might project to OT at the next level where he has solid footwork and frame.   Also led team in tackles as a defensive end.
