There isn't much down time on the athletic schedule if your name is Austin White. Once the Livonia Stevenson tailback saw his gridiron season come to an end, it was off to the hardwood. Now that his basketball season has concluded, track season is about to start. Throughout it all he has set aside time for his share of collegiate visits… most recently to the University of Michigan a few weeks back for the Wolverines' annual junior day. While there he connected once again with the man that would be charged with coaching him in Ann Arbor, running backs coach Fred Jackson.
"We had a championship basketball game, so I had to leave a little early, but I went to Junior Day and got to talk to Coach Jackson a lot and it was nice," White recalled. "Because I had to leave sort of earlier, we didn't get time to talk to Coach Rod too much. It's okay, though, the majority of the time you spend with your position coach, so it was good to talk to Coach Fred."
"I always like Coach Jackson," he continued. "He is straightforward with everything. He's not hiding anything from you. When I talked to him I told him I liked it because he is excited. He wants to coach me and it was necessary to see a coach being excited to coach you. They want you to succeed and everything like that and they know you can. It was nice to see that from him."
"As of right now, I don't have any plans but there are some places that I want to see this summer," White reported. "I've been getting some interest from LSU. They've been sending me handwritten cards last week and this week. I called the coach once and got a hold of him, so I'm going to talk to him more. They want me to come down, and that is definitely a place I'd liked to visit. Florida State would have to be sometime in the summer too. I'll probably go there for a one day camp."
As has been stated since the onset of his recruitment, White plans to let things play out until well in to the season… opting to use the aforementioned trips to help him sort through his growing list of suitors. However, that won't stop prospects that have already made their commitments from trying to convince him to do the same.
"I talked to Jeremy Jackson at the (junior day) and he was recruiting me a little bit," said White. "He was like ‘Yo, we just got Devin and all we need is you now'. I was like, 'Yeah, I hear ya.' I haven't gotten a chance to talk to (Devin) about it yet. I was surprised (he committed). I think that's great. I think he can do really good there. It's good for him. He's a good kid. I'm going to wait though."
GoBlueWolverine will have more on White in the coming months.
