Wolverines Outfight Gators

Senior Michigan linebacker Victor Hobson capped a great game and a great season with a pass interception to seal a 38-30 Wolverine victory over the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl this New Year's afternoon.

The Michigan offense started slowly, but by halftime had built a 21-16 lead. In the second half both offenses were dominating until late in the game, when Michigan took the lead 35-30 and then made defensive stops in the Gators' last three posessions.

For Michigan junior running back Chris Perry ran for 85 yards and four touchdowns (a Michigan bowl record), and added another 108 yards receiving on screen passes, for 193 total yards. Junior quarterback John Navarre was 21 for 36 passing for 319 yards and no interceptions. And Braylon Edwards and Bennie Joppru both had great games with four catches for 110 yards and six receptions for 80 yards, respectively. On defense, Hobson led the Wolverines with 12 tackles. And Kicker Adam Finley had another good game, adding Michigan's finaly points in his only field goal attempt, and punting nine times for a 39.1 yard average, including several 45+ yard boomers to get the Wolverines out of poor field positon.

After the game the Michigan fans gathered around the band and hung out, basking in the glow of the season-ending win. Senior running back B.J. Askew had the honor of 'directing the band' in a chorus of "The Victors."
