Spencer Boyd preparing for upcoming visits

Cape Coral, Florida's CB Spencer Boyd has set up visits to colleges for next week. In our conversation he talks about where he is going to visit, his familiarity with the Michigan staff, whether his family is favoring Notre Dame over the rest of the schools, and his unofficial top five.

Spencer Boyd is on a mission from now until he commits to a college. He wants to do as much research as he can on schools. Spencer has gone online to take a look at quite a few schools, but it is the visits to those universities that will give him a better feel for them.

"I just want to sit down and talk to the coaches and the players to see what school I am comfortable with," he told GoBlueWolverine. "I need to know this because the school that I choose -- I will be there for the next four or five years."

Spencer Boyd will take an up close look at three schools next week. "I am will be coming up to Michigan on Tuesday, Ohio State on Wednesday and Notre Dame on Saturday for their spring game."br>
When talking with these schools, the running back/defensive back out of Florida has one question that he wants answered: "Will I be able to get on the field early and compete for a position?"

The University of Michigan will have the first opportunity to answer that question. As I mentioned earlier Spencer will be visiting next Tuesday to watch the final spring practice and to speak with Coach Rodriguez and staff.

Early-on, Spencer had been a little uncertain about how the Wolverines felt about him. "I didn't know if they knew about me or not because I had not received any mail from them," he said. "Then about a month ago Jaylen Watkins (a teammate who also has been offered by Michigan at defensive back) was walking in the hallway at school told me Michigan had offered me. I was surprised they offered but happy also."

Defensive Line Coach Grey Frey has been recruiting Spencer and it has been going will so far. "Coach Frey and I have had very good conversations ... they are recruiting me as an athlete for offense or defense."

So what side of the ball do you want to play on? "Wherever a team needs me at and where I can play right away."

Spencer and his family are very familiar with the Michigan coaching staff since the Boyds are from West Virginia. When Spencer was a freshman he attended West Virginia's football camp, and he remembers the experience very well.

"I remember that Coach Magee told me how impressed he was with my footwork and my agility. I won the running back M.V.P. Award at that camp. Most all the coaches on the Michigan staff are from the same place that I am, West Virginia."

Spencer had a chance to see Michigan last season. He and his father have a very high opinion of them for next year. "I know they are going to be very good next season," said Spencer. Scott Boyd, Spencer's dad, chimed in, "I think Michigan with Coach Rodriguez plays a very exciting brand of football."

The Boyds are trying to help their son make the right decision and to make sure he gives every school a proper look. He gave me an unofficial top five as of yesterday, and they are in no particular order: Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Stanford and UCF (Central Florida). Miami and North Carolina have shown interest but have not offered him yet. He did make it a point to say that he is still open to all schools at this time.

There has been a bit of a rumor going around that Spencer's family wanted him to commit Notre Dame. I asked Spencer about that and here is what he had to say about it. "That is not true at all. I am wide open to all schools ... my family is not trying to push me towards any one school."

Spencer's parents stressed that as well: "We are behind him 100% no matter what school he chooses."

What is clear right now is that the decision to choose a college will be Spencer's ... but his dad and mom will help hi reach that decision so that he does what is best for him.
