Michigan, Texas DE have mutual interest

Coach Rod and Company are keeping there eyes on Holmes Onwukaife a defensive end out of Cedar Park, Texas. And Holmes tells GBW that he is doing the same with them.

The Michigan football staff is keeping there eyes on Holmes Onwukaife (Un-woo-Kai-fey) a defensive end out of Cedar Park, Texas. Holmes is doing the same with them, as well as with other schools. Onwukaife didn't expect that his recruitment would pick up the way that it has recently.

"Recruiting is going pretty good," he told GoBlueWolveirne. "It has just picked up in the last month and a half. I didn't really expect it to be this big, I just want to listen to my parents and stay humble and be very grateful that this is happening to me."

He has picked up 17 offers so far ... of the 17 he knows a little more about the Wolverines from a good source he can lean on. "I have a cousin that works at the University of Michigan," he said. "We have talked about some of the things that they have up there."

He has also been very pro-active in finding out even more information about the Maize and Blue. Holmes contacted two other individuals that could inform him about Michigan.

"On Sunday I decided to call Coach Fred Jackson, and we talked for 30 minutes. Coach Jackson talked with me about the tutoring sessions they have for athletes; he also talked about what a great value a Michigan education is. I told Coach Jackson how I was impressed with the spring game that I had a chance to see on-line. He told me he will be coming down to visit me next week."

Holmes didn't stop there ... he also contacted a recent player that committed to the Wolverines to see what his thoughts were on Michigan.

"I talked with Stephen Hopkins to ask him what he thought about Michigan, and he told me it was a unique place. He was trying to recruit me and he told me how they are getting ready to do big things."

Although it seems that Michigan has a head start, he is also interested in other schools. Holmes has 17 offers, and we picked five schools for him to talk about ... here are his thoughts on those schools.

Michigan- "Talking with Coach Jackson, he told me how normal the football player's schedules are. They had a bad season but they are getting ready to do big things. Michigan is one of the top ranked public universities in the country according to U.S. New and World Report so I am looking at them for their football and academics."

UCLA- "Another very good school academically, their team is coming along. I have talked to Coach Franklin about the defensive line. I also did an on-line virtual tour to look at them a little more."

SMU- "Pretty nice place. It really stands out to me. Coach June Jones runs practices with no whistles and that was amazing to me. They seem to be a program trying to turn things around."

Missouri- "They are a very good program in the Big 12, a program on the rise. I had a chance to see them on T.V. Coach Pinkell is going a nice job there."

Texas Tech- "I was surprised they offered me. My coach told them about me and gave them some film to see. Two days later I had an offer. Another team that is coming along very well."

With all of these schools coveting his services we asked him what was he looking for in a school.

"I am looking for a school that is equally balanced, one that has good academics, a winning football program and a good environment. I want to go somewhere I will be comfortable for the next four years."

Although Holmes is a defensive end, schools are recruiting him to play outside linebacker.

"I really like both positions a lot even though this will be my first year playing outside linebacker."

Holmes has a G.P.A. 3.3. He will not be graduating school early, but look for him to narrow his list of schools soon.

"My list of schools will be cut down to 5-10 schools by the middle of May or early June."
