Akunne to Receive Summer Hoops Scholarship

Michigan basketball preferred walk-on Eso Akunne learned recently that he will begin his Wolverine career on scholarship. Details inside.

"He is going to be receiving a summer scholarship," Richard assistant Don Spencer said to GoBlueWolverine Thursday.  "It's going to effective when things start June 23rd or 25th… I'm not quite sure (which day).  It's only effective for the summer.  At the end of the summer he'll be reevaluated and very well could go into the season with the preferred walk-on status, paying for his own way at that point -- or not.  We don't know what's going to happen over the course of the next three or four months.

Akunne plans to sign a binding letter of intent to the University of Michigan next week.  As a result of this development he will be free to work and train with the team under strength coach Mike Curtis.
