Ash Getting More Familiar with Michigan

Pahokee (FL) defensive lineman Richard Ash is another in the long line of high major prospects from the renowned talent hotbed. He is also another that recently received an offer from the University of Michigan.

After watching so many of his teammates at Pahokee high receive offers from the University of Michigan recently, it didn't come as a complete shock to Blue Devils DT Richard Ash that his came next.  At the same time, he still found it a little surprising.

"(Michigan assistant Rod Smith) offered me (Monday)," Ash recalled.  "I never got any mail from them.  I don't really know much about them right now, but I'm looking to learn.  I'm going to talk to the coach more and learn about them."

Michigan is now part of a 13-member offer sheet that also includes Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, and Purdue

"I'm still open," Ash insisted.  "I kind of just want to visit places.  I think we might end up going on some visits this summer."

The 6-3, 260 pounder has already visited Florida, UCF, and FIU.  One of his future destinations quite possibly could be Ann Arbor.  The presence of former Blue Devils Martavious Odoms, Brandin Hawthorne, Vincent Smith will likely help him getter a better feel for the Maize & Blue, but will be the extent of their impact.

"Them being there not going to really play a factor in my decision," said Ash.  "(The current Pahokee players) talk about (going to the same school), but I don't know if we're going to end up doing it.  (The decision) will depend on whether I feel comfortable or not, do I have a good relationship with the coaches, and is it a good academic program."

Another factor not likely to play a role in Ash's decision is weather.

"I really don't know (if proximity to home will be a factor) at the moment, but I think I could get comfortable with the cold.  Martavious and them say they're doing all right up there.  They said it be freezing though (laughing)."

For the time being, Ash is content to just take recruiting in stride.  The only thing he is certain about at this point is the future success of his current team.

"We're going to win the state again," Ash said confidently.  "I'm not sure when I'll make my college decision.  If I find a place where I think I fit, I'll do it early.  If not I'll think a little bit more about it."
