Dan Chilcote gaining interest

Jackson Lumen Christi forward Dan Chilcote is picking up interest from Big Ten basketball programs. GBW talked with him about those schools and how his game is continuing to developing.

Every year when evaluations of the freshmen and sophomore class come out you hear about the top ten or twelve kids in those classes.  Through our experience, when you start looking at the overall class play there are also some other kids that you see that will be there in the end.

Dan Chilcote is one of those players. I have seen him since the summer before his sophomore year, and I knew that he could be very good. Last year I had a chance to see him play and I could see how versatile he was: Dan can handle, he rebounds very well, he can score inside and outside, and he defends as well as blocking shots. Back then he was 6'5 and around 190, now he is going into his junior year and is 6'8 205 ... and he is getting better as well.

The players that he reminds me of the most are Northwestern's Kevin Coble and Purdue's Robbie Hummel. His AAU coach Tim McCormick (yes, THE Tim McCormick) also has someone in mind: "Coach McCormick thinks I play like Kyle Singler from Duke," Chilcote told GoBlueWolverine. "I just go out there and play hard and do my best."

With his team's success this season, colleges are starting to notice what he can do and are stepping up their interest in him.

"Michigan, Northwestern and Iowa have really been calling and showing their interest in me. Illinois, Penn State and Purdue have been sending me mail. I will be attending Northwestern Elite camp on August 7th and 8th, and Iowa wants me to come to their Elite camp as well."

So where do the Wolverines fit into the equation?

"Well, I will be attending Michigan's Elite camp this year. I have been to many of their games this year. I have been in the locker room and talked with the coaches. Coach Jackson is recruiting me and we have talked. He wants to get me up to some football games. Michigan is starting to come on very strong."

Dan knows all about Coach Beilein's system and how they use their players.

"I love Coach Beilein's system with the way he uses his big guys and his wings; I think I would fit in very well with that system."

Academics are very important to him he is carrying a 3.9 g.p.a with AP classes in Literature and German.

"I would like to eventually go into medicine. I would like to be an emergency room doctor."

Dan Chilcote is a name to remember ... as his game continues to progress more and more colleges will be interested in this multi talented student-athlete.
