Ohio LB Ontko Starting To Hear From Michigan

One of the hidden gems in the state of Ohio, the linebacker/athlete Cameron Ontko is starting to hear from several schools, with some extending offers as well. The Wolverines are among the new suitors poking and prodding to learn more about him. GoBlueWolverine gets the latest.

Cameron Ontko is a brand new name for some in the recruiting world.  A hidden gem from the Walsh Jesuit program in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area, he's now starting to become unearthed by several major FBS programs.

"I'm a hard nosed football player," Ontko stated emphatically to GoBlueWolverine.  "I started since my sophomore year at running back and last year I started playing linebacker.  I see myself as an outside backer in college.  I think I'm better on the defensive side of the ball.  I picked up some offers this summer from Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Indiana, Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan."

While those are the only schools to extend scholarship offers at this point and time, there is still heavy interest in this diamond in the rough prospect.  Through his trainer, Mark Harris, at the rising Raw Talent training post in the Cleveland area, he's hearing that the Michigan Wolverines are also interested in the prospect.

"I've just been hearing through Mark Harris that they're very interested and that I could get an offer possibly.  They're looking at me at linebacker."

Most schools are vying to add his athleticism to their defensive sides of the ball.  With his training and touring with Raw Talent, Ontko posted eye popping numbers that no doubt have coaches drooling at his potential.

"At Georgia Tech my forty was a 4.36 and my shuttle was a 3.87.  At Kentucky I had the fastest forty, a 4.39.  At Wisconsin my forty was a 4.43 laser timed, and it was the fastest they've had at camp in three years."

Many Michigan fans have become accustomed to hearing about how prospects in the Buckeye State are also Buckeye fans.  It's the same with Ontko, but not a determining factor.  Should the Maize and Blue extend an offer, Ontko would definitely be willing to hear what the Wolverines have to offer.

"If Michigan offered, it'd be pretty cool.  I mean, I've always been an Ohio State fan my whole life, so there was naturally a little hatred (growing up), but I'd definitely consider their offer if they did."

While at this time it seems the Badgers of Wisconsin hold a strong spot in the driver's seat of Ontko's recruitment, he's still open to other options.  If Michigan, or any other school, were to throw their name into the mix, Ontko would give them a fair shot.

"Yeah, it would definitely mean something.  I want to consider all the offers I get so I don't regret anything at all."
