The Recruiting Trail

Short talks with Kirston Pittman and Fred Sparkman tonight, and calls into two other homes have traced a trail of in-home and in-school visits by Wolverine coaches this week -- including a couple new ones!

***Friday morning update***

Monday:

Coach Carr and Coach Jackson were in Stockton Calif. to see running back Lynell Hamilton. Perhaps to no avail since afterward Hamilton told me, "I'd say Oregon is still leading."

Tuesday:

Coach Carr went south to San Diego to see Michigan commitment Leon Hall.

Wednesday:

Coach Carr visited defensive back Paul Oliver in Atlanta, and Carr Coach Jackson visited commitment Adam Kraus and defensive end Kirston Pittman in New Orleans.

(***Friday morning update) We talked briefly tonight (Thursday) to Kirston Pittman (Dec. 6 oficial visit, 6-4, 235 lbs., 4.5 in the 40) from Reserve, Louisiana, East St. John High. Kirston is friendly but just doesn't give anything tip of his hand -- ever. "Yes, the Michigan coaches were in last night, Coach Carr and Coach Jackson. All the schools so far are so good, they are all tied. It's going to be hard to pick one. I have two visits to go, Miami and LSU." Shontee Orr's NFL departure may help here.

Early Wednesday evening Paul Oliver (6-0, 180 lbs., 4.42 in the 40) from Kennesaw, Georgia, Harrison, TheInsiders' #23 prospect, told me, "I am still committed to Georgia. I make my official visit there this weekend. [But he added] Michigan isn't out of it, I wouldn't say that. You know, I love Michigan, and I loved my Michigan visit."

Thursday:

(***Friday morning update): We now confirmed with the Carnell Stewart household that Coach Carr and Coach Jackson DID make an early visit Thursday morning in-school visit to defensive lineman Carnell Stewart (possible Jan. 31 official visit, 6-5, 290 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 415-lb. bench press, 2.8 GPA) from River Ridge, Louisiana, John Curtis Christian. And Carnell WILL visit U-M either Jan. 24 or 31.

Then Coach Jackson made a quick trip north to Saginaw, Michigan to visit at the school of Lamarr Woodley and Jerome Jackson.

The tentative in-home visit with Linebacker Fred Sparkman (Dec. 13 official visit, 6-1, 216 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 3.4 GPA/20 ACT) from Columbia, Tenn., Central did not happen with Coach Carr and Coach Herrmann. We reached Fred tonight, who told us, "Michigan hasn't talked to me since I got back from North Carolina."

Finally, we reached the home of All-American linebacker Shawn Crable (Dec. 13 official visit, 2002 Michigan camper, 6-6, 225 lbs., 4.74 in the 40, 10.8 100 meters, 2.8 GPA/15 ACT) from Massillon, Ohio, Washington. Shawn is not home, but we confirmed that Coach Herrmann was at his school today. Crable makes his final visit to Pitt this weekend.

Whew! That's it for right now.
