DePriest Planning Visits

Springfield (OH) LB Trey DePriest hasn't gotten serious about his recruitment just yet, but that will all change in a matter of weeks. At that point the c/o 2011 star plans to hit the visit trail hard.

The month of September was like a whirlwind for Springfield (OH) LB Trey DePriest.  The Buckeye State star knew a number of colleges were interested in his talent, but was still surprised by the rapid rate the scholarship offers came through.

"I've got 12 of them for real… like 15 of them," DePriest said.  "I got UC (Cincinnati), Michigan, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Notre Dame, Illinois, O-State, Stanford, Duke… I can't even remember them all."

DePriest traveled to Columbus for their vaunted match-up with USC last month, making that his only unofficial visit of the fall thus far.  There, is however, a very practical reason for that.

"That's the closest (school)," he explained.  "If I wanted to get to the other games, I'd had to leave (home) real early."

The timing issue certainly came into play when DePriest decided against heading out on another unofficial.

"I was supposed to go to the (Michigan) homecoming game when they played Indiana, but I would have had leave at like six o'clock the day right after a game," the four-star prospect said.  "I wasn't trying to do that."

What DePriest is trying to do is keep recruiting on the backburner for the time being so he can focus on his high team.

"As soon as football is over, I'm going to (visit) a lot of them that are farther away.  Right now (the schools) are just sending me letters.  I don't really have time.  I got my school work and all that.  I don't really call them."

One of DePriest's destinations will definitely be Michigan.  The Wolverines were his favorite team growing up, but he insists he will approach his recruitment with an open mind.

"I'm going to treat them just like all the rest of the schools," stated DePriest.  "I have to go through the process with eyes wide open.  I'm just looking at everything.  Another school might have something that Michigan doesn't, (but) that I want academically."

DePriest hasn't yet determined which academic field he will go into, but he does know the timeframe by which he plans to make the decision on which college he will ultimately attend.

"I want to have (a commitment) made by at least summer," he said.  "Maybe a little bit after that."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on DePriest in the coming months.
