Return Trip to UM on Tap for Smith

West Chester (OH) Lakota West TE Alex Smith planned to be coming down the home stretch of his recruitment at this point. That plan changed, however, thanks to a late detour that will allow him to take in one more game day setting… this time in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Alex Smith has been watching the production of the Michigan tight ends from afar this season.  Saturday he will take an up close and personal look.

"Yep, I'm going to be there," replied Smith when asked if he would be travelling to Ann Arbor for the Penn State game.  "My mom will be there too.  I think I'm just going to make it an unofficial and just  do an official on probably another weekend."

The Wolverines made a great impression on Smith and especially his mother when they made it up to Ann Arbor for last summer's "Barbecue at the Big House." The two forthcoming visits to campus offer the Maize & Blue a much needed opportunity to make up more ground in a race that they've already come from far behind in.

"I go to (the Cincinnati) home games and watch them when I can," Smith reported.  "I've been to UNC and Wisconsin (on officials). That's really all I had planned.  That was really my top two pretty much (along with Cincinnati).  I wanted Michigan to be involved in that too."

That's very likely a sentiment that is shared by Smith's mother.  She has made no secret of her affinity for Michigan's strong blend of academics and athletics.  At the same time, she has also made it clear that the final decision will ultimately be her son's… but not until after he takes a very thorough look at all of the schools on his list.

"I still would like to (make a commitment) a little bit sooner, but my mom kind of wants  me to wait until my season is fully off… even past playoffs to make my final decision," Smith said.  "So I'll probably be taking some more time."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Smith in the coming days.
