Early last week Tony Jefferson informed Scout.com that despite still being committed to UCLA, he was going to give Michigan, Florida, and Miami another look. To do so fully would mean taking visits. This week he managed to firm up trips to two of those schools.
"I was supposed to come to Michigan on November 7th against Purdue, but there was no redeye flight out there," Jefferson reported. "We rescheduled it to November 21st against Ohio State. I'm going to Florida on the 28th against Florida State. Miami, I still don't officially know the date."
The Maize & Blue had been among Jefferson's chief suitors during the spring. When the four star prospect suddenly committed to UCLA in July, many thought that spelled the end of his recruitment. The Wolverines stayed vigilant, however, and recently that persistence paid off.
"Probably about a month or two months ago – we started talking again," said Jefferson. "I just watching how Michigan plays and stuff and I like the way their defense flies around. I just want to make sure that I'm making the right choice."
One of the factors that initially weighed in favor of the Bruins is proximity, but recently Jefferson began to reevaluate just how important distance from home really is.
"It was (important) at first," Jefferson said regarding being close to home. "It's ultimately up to me and I just want to go out and check it out."
Even though he has started to dedicate more attention to his recruitment, Jefferson vows not to let it take away from his focus on his current team. His versatility has been evident in his final high school campaign, further proving why teams like Michigan believe he could be a standout safety or linebacker.
"We're doing real good, real good," said Jefferson of his Eastlake squad. Offensively I've been tearing it up. Defensively teams have been running the opposite way of the side I'm on, so it kind of sucks. On offense I've just got over the 1000 yard mark on 102 carries and 15 touchdowns. On defense I've got two picks, 33 tackles, and six sacks."GoBlueWolverine will have more on Jefferson in the months to come.
