Signing Day Is Here!

Today is the day for the Letters of Intent to roll in! Michigan expects sixteen for sure to come across their fax machine this morning, and perhaps a seventeenth a little later from Shawn Crable. Here is more detail on what 'went down' last night (you'll be surprised), and what is to come today.

***10:30 AM CRABLE UPDATE**

First off, last (Tuesday) night's early 'breaking' of Signing Day announcements:

Yours truly had told Saginaw's super linebacker Lamarr Woodley that it'd be hard to keep a Signing Day announcement secret. And when the school told newspaper outlets (and yours truly) Tuesday evening what school Woodley and teammate Jerome Jackson were going to pick this morning at an 11 AM press conference ... well the Lansing paper had nothing to lose by leaking it immediately, did it (even though Charles Rogers reportedly visited Woodley late last night to try to change his mind!). We at GBW will do what we told Lamarr and Jerome we would do -- go to their press conference and interview them there.

Woodley had actually told the Michigan coaches at his Dec. 13 visit that he was coming, but once MSU hired a new coach Lamarr gave them a chance to win his signature. In the case of Jackson, he had told us two weeks ago that he'd picked Michigan, but we promised him we'd keep his secret until it was publically announced.

In the case of California quarterback Sam Keller, our West Coast Correspondent Don Hoekwater heard last night from Keller's QB tutor Roger Theder, who confirmed his decommitment to ASU. See Don's article below for the reasons.

There there is Virginia running back Tony Hunt. His mom wanted him to go to Michigan, but it seemed like the other side of the family preferred PSU. Tony actually let it be known a couple days ago that it was going to be Michigan, but even things looked uncertain. In the end, according to Hunt's athletic director (brother of PSU assistant Larry Johnson and uncle to the PSU running back), PSU landed him.

As for today. The Letters of Intent can being coming in via fax at 7AM EST, and by noon it should be over ... except perhaps for one ...

That brings us to Michigan remaining recruit, Massillon, Ohio, linebacker Shawn Crable. Crable plans to announce his decision (between U-M, OSU and perhaps Pitt) at his school at 1:30 PM today. As of early Tuesday evening, from what we understand neither OSU nor U-M had gotten word from him on what he was going to do. Yours truly then decided not to pursue avenues to find out Shawn's decision in advance -- but to sit back and enjoy the 'delicious suspense' on this one. Will it leak? Here's one that I hope doesn't. It looked like calls to Crable's home last night got 'stonewalling' from younger brother (and U-M fan) Jamie -- way to go Jamie!
