Recruits were calling yesterday! The first one who called was Michigan's first junior commitment, Morgan Trent (5-11, 175 lbs., 4.4 in the 40) from Orchard Lake, Mich., St. Mary's.
Morgan, how did it happen? How did Michigan offer and how did you accept ... since a junior can't be directly contacted in person?
"Coach Carr had come to my school and talked to my coach, this past Monday (Jan. 27). My coach told me to call Coach Carr if I wanted. I gave him a call. Coach Carr said I had a scholarship. I spent a couple days taking it in . And on Thursday I called him and said yes -- I committed!"
Why did you pick Michigan?
"I had a chance to go to their camp last summer. I was pleased with the coaches -- Michigan has great coaches. I like the offense they run. And I always followed Michigan since I was a kid. I'll come in as a wide receiver. Did I notice how many receivers they were signing this year -- yes I did ... none! Michigan is just a good place for me. I never really considered other school."
You play cornerback in high school as well. Why receiver?
"That was my main position at the Michigan Camp last summer. I also worked out at free safety for 1/2 half day ... but wide receiver is where they mainly liked me."
Orchard Lake St. Mary's had a poor season last year, just two seasons after winning the State Championship ...
"Yeah, it was s strange year. We went ... 3 and 6. We were a young team. I missed two games. The experience of last year will help us next year."
In seven games last year Trent made 28 catches for 400 yards and six touchdowns; as a cornerback he made seven interceptions.
