Beachum Clears the Air

The Michigan Wolverines hosted one of the top remaining defensive recruits on their board a few weeks ago, in Arkansas commit, Jatashun "Big Tex" Beachum. After he returned home reports surfaced suggesting that the Maize & Blue had faded from contention. Is it really over between Beachum and the Wolverines?

Sam Webb:  Take me back a couple of weeks ago to your Michigan visit; how did everything go?

Jatashun Beachum:  "It was great.  I chilled with a couple of players.  They were all cool.  Everything I was looking for it was there.  It was great.  The whole time I was there I enjoyed myself."

Sam Webb:  Did they get a chance to share with you exactly how they wanted to use you?

Jatashun Beachum:  "Yeah.  They said two things; they said they can't stick me in one spot because they want to use me at so many positions. "They were telling me that I can play in front of 100,000 and it's a great place to play and things like that."

Sam Webb:  So they said that you would definitely see some time on offense too?

Jatashun Beachum:  "Yeah."

Sam Webb:  Who would up being your host on your visit?

Jatashun Beachum:  "Shoelace, Denard Robinson."

Sam Webb:  What was Shoelace like?

Jatashun Beachum:  "(Laughter) He was real cool… he was real cool.  He made me feel right."

Sam Webb:  So you had Shoelace on you working you for Michigan.  Were there any other players or recruits there really putting in a good word for the Maize & Blue?

Jatashun Beachum:  "Yeah.  Ricardo Miller, he is committed or whatever and he was telling me all the stuff that goes on there.  Michigan is a great place.  He was really trying to recruit me too as a player himself."

Sam Webb:  So you got done with the visit and you thought that Michigan was a great place and it had everything you wanted.  What did your mom say about that when you told her?

Jatashun Beachum:  "She asked how it was or whatever and I told her I enjoyed myself, and it was great.  She asked me whether it was better than Arkansas.  I was like, yeah it's straight.  It was a little better.  I don't know if it was just an official visit thing.  I told her that it was better."

Sam Webb:  I know you talked to her before about distance from home, but now that you're down to your final two, where do things stand now?  Is distance going to be a factor?

Jatashun Beachum:  "No.  Distance has never been a factor."

Sam Webb:  Maybe not for you, but what about your mom?

Jatashun Beachum:  "She just said go to where I'm going to like spending my next four years.  She is going to give me some great advice – to do what's best for me."

Sam Webb:  Ok, so do you know when you're going to make your decision?

Jatashun Beachum:  "Not yet.  I can't say yet."

Sam Webb:  Who's on top for your right now?

Jatashun Beachum:  "I don't know."

Sam Webb:  It came out on an Arkansas newspaper site last week that you said it was over with Michigan and you were sticking with Arkansas.

Jatashun Beachum:  "I ain't never told them that.  I really don't know."

Sam Webb:  What kind of advice is (Dallas A. Maceo high) Coach Barnett giving you right now?

Jatashun Beachum:  "Telling me really, he wants me to go to Michigan.  He talking about how Michigan is a great place (laughing).  I'm going to go where I feel is the best place for me."

Sam Webb:  What is going to come down for you?  What are going to be the factors that push one school over the top and make you commit to them?

Jatashun Beachum:  "I don't really know.  Whoever throws me the most playing time...  I'm trying to play."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Beachum in the coming weeks.
